Back pain
Bad back pain shouldn't stop you from enjoying your holidays. All
you need is a little forward-planning. There's no reason why you
shouldn't be reasonably comfortable and able to manage your pain,
wherever you are in the world.
Simple steps to take before you go
A little extra thought before you go can make all the difference to your holiday.
-
Pack wisely and put anything you might need
during a long plane, train or coach journey, such as painkillers
or a special pillow, in your hand luggage.
-
Take your own pillow as this will help you to
sleep comfortably, wherever you are.
-
Use a backpack to prevent unnecessary strain
on your back, but make sure you don't overload it.
-
Plan a special treat – and find out if the
hotel or resort you are visiting has a massage therapist and book
ahead to ensure you get an appointment.
-
Relax and try not to get stressed out during the
pre-holiday rush, especially if you find that stress and pressure
makes your back pain worse. Make sure you take the time to do
exercise
and eat
properly.
While you're away
-
Keep walking when you're on the plane or train,
as getting up for a stroll down the aisle can help alleviate
pain.
-
Taking regular breaks is essential if you are
travelling long distances by car. Make time to stretch your legs
whenever you take a break.
-
Don't worry and keep holiday stress to a minimum
by taking time out to relax and breathe.
-
Do it your way. It's your holiday, so don't feel
pressurised to do things that make you feel uncomfortable or that
will make your condition worse.
